Bowker Driving Tuition Aberystwyth - News Updates

No Licence - No Test!! - From October 1st 2007 a test candidate must have both the Photocard AND Paper part of their licence when attending their test appointment - or the test will not go ahead. Normally if the paper part has been lost the examiner will ask them to sign a form and the test could then go ahead but it will no longer be the case. Duplicate licences can be obtained from the DVLA.

Changes to the Theory Test from 3rd September 2007 - The number of questions is being increased from 35 (with 30 correct answers needed to pass) to 50 (with 43 correct answers needed to pass). The Hazard Perception part of the test will remain the same. The fee will be increased from £21.50 to £28.50.

Pass Plus subsidy currently suspended - Ceredigion County Council are for now no longer offering a £75 subsidy as an incentive to new drivers to do a Pass-Plus course (which must be with a Pass-Plus registered DSA Approved Driving Instructor) in order to help reduce road accidents. more>>>

note: see the ' Pass Plus Cymru' link for an even cheaper way of furthering your driving education and reducing your car insurance premium!

The Government considers making the Practical Test more difficult - Along with plans to have safe driving introduced into the school curriculum, the government is considering the Swedish system, where drivers undergo a minimum of 120 hours of training before taking a test. Transport Minister Stephen Ladyman has said "The test may need to be expanded and made much more thorough". This is only in the discussional stage, but potential learners should be aware that there is a consistent drive from the media and pressure groups to make the driving test harder.

New tuition cars for 2006 - Peugeot are again our tuition vehicles of choice. This time going for the 206 hdi sport which has a proven track record for reliability and build quality. It's proving to be a real hit with the pupils having excellent all round visibility, a nice light steering action and of course excellent street credibility!! So thanks to Anthony Motors Llanbadarn for an excellent service and a seamless transition to the new tuition vehicles.

Congratulations to Instructor Phil Bowker - As part of a continuing professional development plan he has passed the IAM Advanced Driving Test, the RoSPA Advanced Driving Test with a Gold grade, the DIAmond Special Test and the coveted Diploma in Driving Instruction. All demonstrate a very high standard of either driving ability or theory knowledge and Phil will no doubt endeavor to pass on the skills to his pupils!! more>>>

Maintenance Checks on Test - Since 2004, a candidate sitting the Practical Test must be able to correctly carry out two maintenance checks from a set list compiled by the Driving Standards Agency. Some must actually be demonstrated for the examiner whereas for the others you need only identify where and how the checks would be made.. more>>>
